I can only get hfc-2 on Amazon. They only have CVT at o'riellys. Does it matter?

If it mentions that it's equivalent to use in Honda's then yes

It may or may not be. If it were me, considering that the Honda fluid is not much more expensive at the dealer, I would get the Honda fluid. That way you know it is compatible. Formulating CVT fluid is tricky stuff. I wouldn't even pretend to know every factor involved. One critical factor is providing the proper type and amount of friction modifiers to keep the CVT belt or chain from slipping. With the HCH-I having shown CVT issues, I don't blame Honda for being protective of their CVT and designing their own custom fluid which is what I would use.

Hondas can be very fussy about what oils you put in their transmissions. I would use the recommended stuff from your local tame Honda dealership; it's not much more expensive than generic oils, you don't need much of it, and you don't need to change it all that often.

With all the problems CVT transmissions have been having I strongly recommend having transmission services done at the dealer. That way you have a record of maintaining the tranny and if/when it fails you have a better chance of getting a customer goodwill warranty to replace it.
Many automatic transmissions don't have dipsticks anymore and a special tool is needed to get the correct amount of ATF back in the tranny.

  • Flashing check engine light on 02 Honda Oddyssey after Valvoline oil change? Got an oil change at Valvoline, and next day check engine light began flashing. Car was running flawlessly before oil change. They suggested a new fuel filter, as mine was pretty rough. I declined. Got error codes of random misfire, as well as cylinder 1,2,4,6 misfire. Scanner at auto zone listed EGR valve as suggested part. Could this possibly be that the fuel filter is bad or was put back on incorrectly?
  • Do you think CVT transmission is bad? I'm truly in love with the 2017 Honda CR-V except for the CVT. I've heard so many horror stories about it that I may buy another car because of it. So do you think CVT is bad or am I worried for nothing?
